Teaching Philosophy:

All learning begins with curiosity- asking how, why, what, and when. It continues with process- having an interesting question you want to answer, gathering resources, placing value on how you make decisions, being a good editor, seeing the value of risk taking, and using failure as a step in the process of growing rather than as a stumbling block. Patience, experimentation, and tenacity are all mindsets I encourage in my students and are valuable assets in my own artistic practice in mixed media drawing and painting.

During my residency at Faculty Crossing, I would like to share my thoughts and classroom experiences related to engaging fully in each stage of the creative process, and embracing so-called mistakes as both a valuable visual element as well as a way to promote faster artistic growth. I believe that this “try again” process, accepting mistakes, being comfortable with uncertainty, and moving forward has broader implications for facing life challenges such as acceptance of failures, disappointments, and practicing resilience and self-forgiveness.
