Teaching Philosophy:
As a working illustrator I've learned the importance of being adaptable, working within strange confines, and rolling with the ups and downs of a creative profession-- all while keeping fun and artistic curiosity intact for myself. I find illustration students can be uniquely well suited to the challenges of working at a distance, and it does reflect the working conditions of a professional illustrator in many ways. Of course the pandemic has created complications and awkwardness for instructors, but a few unexpected advantages have surfaced as well. During my residency, I'll be talking both about the need to stay adaptable and find enjoyment in isolated work in a rapidly unpredictable world, as well as share a few interesting pedagogical techniques that I've stumbled upon during my own remote teaching.
